The Kingdom Expanded

Screenshots

Currently, The Kingdom Expanded still has not seen a release. This of course means that the engine is still in development stages and things can change quite fast. Here you can find all the screenshots that have been released of this engine. More screenshots will be added as they are released!

Here are some of the most recent screenshots released of the engine, showing eg. units, varying terrain, minimap and a bunch of different buildings in action.

Screenshots from 2007

The screenshots here are sorted from oldest to newest to make it easier to see the progress that has been done. The first screenshot from January shows an early implemention of the building flags, that is they are visible crosses. In February however, elevation was finally added to the engine and it was ported to OpenGL and two screenshots showcasing this were released. Another screenshots of the elevation was released in March showing some changes that had been done. It wasn't until June that the next screenshot was posted showing the pretty much finalized elevation system. In October buildings, fog of war and map objects got added into the engine as the next two screenshots that were released clearly demonstrate. In November a screenshot showing a bit of toying with player colors was released.

Screenshots from 2006

The two first screenshots are the very first shots that were released of this alternate engine attempt are what you can see below. At this point the engine was not much more than a primitive map viewer type of utility. Following these two, the next threee screenshots are from October, not showing much visible progress, but it seems like most of the buildings can now be seen from the menu and that this mysteriously missing last building is now in the game. Now one can also see what one is about to build. Two screenshots were also released in November showing the ware distribution menu and impassable terrain, but like the last time no major visible changes have been done. It seems like Harold had a lot of time to develop the engine during December judging by the two last screenshots, as the mini-map was now made functional and some very early buildings could now also be displayed. The mini-map has overgone some coloring changes during development.
