512 DDR RAM (Can't remember clockspeed)
AMD Athlon XP 2200+ 1.79 GHz
Sapphire Radeon 9200 SE
120 GB Diamond Maxtor 9
LG 52x CD-ROM Drive
LG 52x CD-R Drive (Whatever a burner is called)
In my first upgrade I did the following stuff:
Added second harddrive - 250 GB Diamond Maxtor 10
LG 52x CD-ROM Drive -> 48x CD-ROM & 16x DVD-ROM Drive Combo
In my third (major) upgrade I changed the following stuff:
512 DDR RAM -> 1024 DDR RAM
Sapphire Radeon 9200 SE -> Sapphire Radeon 9800 Pro
AMD Athlon XP 2200+ 1.79 GHz -> AMD Athlon XP 2500+ 1.82 GHz
LG 52x CD-R Burner Drive -> LG 52x CD-R & 16x DVD+R&DVD-R Combo Drive
After the third upgrade my comp got some major overheating issues so I purchased some additional fans, however when I replaced my GPU fan it broke so I'm back to my old 9200 . Luckily a X600 costs only a but under 100? so I'll probably upgrade to it someday, but I think my power supply has to be upgraded as well to give it enough power.
I'm using flatrate DSL (128k) and quite happy with it.
Things I don't like in my PC are:
- noise - I want it silent :roll:
- Vibra128 PCI soundcard - sounds really not that good
What can you recommend me to do ?

Mine is P2260+GF6600GT. Other specs are not that important IMO

I have 2 8cm fans blowing at my GPU and HDD rack. I keep em at 5v power supply, but when it comes to playing anything I boost em to 12v. Even though at 5v they sound quite noticably.
Also there are 3 HDDs I have. It's not much of a trouble when I'm listening to WinAmp, but I prefer working in silence.
Anyway I don't know much I can do about it

I've just exchanged PCI blower (GPU fan removed a long ago for it was VERY loud) and now it runs a bit quiter
Also I'm not really glad with HDD temperatures - 41C right now with almost nil load. Though it's hot here - ~30C - summer :roll:

My System:
Windows XP Professional - Service pack 2
RAM - 2.00 GB
HardDrive - 50 GB (Bad Need more)
Running on a Duel Xeon Processor
Got me the 6600 Nivida Graphics card.
Uh, everything else I don't really care about.
In the future I will get a nicer computer for myself.
What monitors you guys have ? Resolution and size I'm interesetd about.
I've got 17" IIYAMA at 1152*864*100Hz and it has pretty nice high-brightness mode to watch photos and movies, it makes em more life-like.

Loud computers seem to be a big problem nowdays as first fans were added on the CPUs causing some additional sounds and now even the GPUs need cooling. Does anyone know when the PSUs started appearing with fans on them. Can't remember whether my old comp had a fan on the PSU or not...
My comp might not be really top notch, but I don't really need one either as I'm in no hurry to play the most current games. They are too expensive compared to the content so I usually stick to older games unless I can get it cheap (bought settlers 5 for around 15?). DOSBox has been one of my most used programs recently .
Anyways as my monitor I'm using a 17" HP 1280x1024 @ 60Hz. I hate it as after a while it starts making an annyoing beeping noise (it probably suffers minor overheating).

the computer I'm currently using is quite new:
ASUS Striker Extreme based:
QX6850 (aka Intel quad core, 3GHz)
4GB DDR2 800MHz
GeForce 8800GTS 640MB XXX by XFX (yes I got it before the GT was released)
320GD SATAII harddisk (random brand, 16MB buffer)
11885 3DMarks without overclocking, nice eh?
The weakest link is is the GeForce 8800GTS, someday I'll put two Ultra's in SLI of course, maybe in the 9k series but probably not in 8k series
Then the second weakest link is (surprisingly) the quad core, the new Penryn is performing quite a lot better, and they are even cheaper than the QX6850 for some reason (if only I had known that earlier.. although it's not like the QX6850 is bad or so)
700W PSU (not realy "uber", but it's alright, and has nice cables)
Case: ThermalTake Armour black (ok I forgot the number)
looks like this:
edit: I build it myself of course, but the CPU cooler hurt my finger all these sharp copper cooling things are nice of course but they do hurt if the cpu cooler is fighting back
edit2: obviously I use XP 64bit

The Penryn would be quite nice to have though. Other than just being very fast it also seems quite overclocking friendly. At Tom's Hardware they managed to overclock it to 4GHz by using only air cooling :shock: (3rd party fan of course).
I did find your choice of harddrive interesting. That's where I usually tend to spend quite a lot of money (I currently have 370GB but it's running out of space ). The brand is something I also find quite important, I just hate getting a harddrive crash.
