Edit problem with TPR

I have just downloaded TPR.

When i use lewins editor to look into the missions i only get this

Error:Mission does not contain "!SET_MAP". The file is corrupt or not a valid Knights and Merchants mission file.
Possibly the file is unencoded, in which case you should select "File->Load Non-encoded File" from the main menu.

and if i do so, i get:

Error:Mission does not contain "!SET_MAP". The file is corrupt or not a valid Knights and Merchants mission file.
Possibly the file is encoded, in which case you should load it normally, not with "load Non-Encoded File"

What is wrong, what can i do

It sounds like you are trying to open the wrong file. Are you opening a .DAT file?

The other possiblility is that you downloaded a bad copy of TPR. Some cracked versions use a different encoding on the mission files, and won't work with my editor.

So if you ARE opening a .DAT file then it is probably because you have a bad copy. (there is no fix for this) Try to download a different version. Once you find a version that works you should install the SR3 Beta patch on it, because that will patch you up to the latest version and make sure everything is correct.

I hope you get it working, if not email me or send me a PM and I'll give you a link to a working copy of TPR.

another question...

We have to PC's here. WE are linked through cables to my wireless internet connection (meaning we both have a cable hooked into the wireless router, so WE are not wireless, just the connection out of the house)

when i set up a multiplayer game via TCI/IP - my son only sees MY game - noone elses

is it possible that i can set up a game, so he and i and some of his friends (far away) can play together (over the internet)

and how do we do? (i'm the gamemaster)

hi litude..

wasn't asking for illegal copies. If you notice, i was trying to download a trialversion and i'm prepared to pay for the use - just wanted to know where i couldn't find one that can be edited. (those two trials i found couldn't)

I see no reason why you couldn't edit the missions in the trial version. Which file exactly are you trying to open?

I do. The .DAT files in the trial mission are encoded differently. I think they just use a different XOR key. So you won't be able to edit the missions in the trial version unless I add support for that in my editor, which I probably won't.

You'll have to buy it to edit the missions. However, it is possible that some pay-then-download versions will also use the different format. (although probably not) The other problems with some of these redistributions is that you can't install the patches because they don't set the correct registary keys. (so the installer doesn't think KaM is installed)
is it possible that i can set up a game, so he and i and some of his friends (far away) can play together (over the internet)
The only way to do that is by setting up a VPN with Hamachi. It is possible, and not too hard to do. I have played games using this method on multiple occasions. Download the basic version Hamachi (made by LogMeIn, Google it) then create your own network with a password. Install it on the other peoples computers and get them to join your network. It is easier to make your own network than trying to join one of the public ones people created for KaM. Once you've done that you should be able to see each others games. Make sure you disable the firewall on your computers. (you do not need to on the routers though, as Hamachi bypasses that)

Just remember that multiplayer in TPR is buggy and awful, so you should still use TSK.

Let me know if you want more help.

hi lewin

and a again thanks for your time

sounds a bit tricky with that hamachi. They are kids and i'm pretty sure they have no clue how to put down the firewall and stuff. :(

Guees we just hae to play it someday we are together.

about trickt TPR... yesterday my son and i tried to play multiplayer i TPR he suddenly came running and accused me of sacking his town. i didn't even have barracks, so no chance of that. But his storage house was GONE.. well not gone, but demolished??

could that have anything to with TPR or was that a coincident?

Which demo version are you using? I just tried all of the demos I have and it worked fine?

That's a shame. The firewall thing probably isn't needed, I think Hamachi does it automatically. If you can install and set up Hamachi on their computers then using it is easy. (basically just turn it on and you are instantly connected to your friends)

That sounds like a TPR mutliplayer bug. Basically it gets out of sync (we think) and starts sending the wrong messages. This means that stuff happens like troops appear where they are not and each others villages being different. I doubt that it is a coincidence.

Oh, sorry. I might have been mistaken. I've received a few emails over the years with people sending me .DAT files that they can't open with my editor. They seemed to be encoded differently. I assumed they were demo versions or badly cracked demo versions, but I must have been wrong.
Lewin.
