Problem with Stone Mason

I have a simple problem. My Stone Mason did not see the stone in the area. Is it because of the location of the stone on the edge of the map?

In KaM stonemasons can only mine mountains from below. The animation for mining only exists for the stonemason facing upwards, so it's not possible to change without creating a lot of new sprites. Maps should put stone above or to the side of the player's starting position, not below.
