Unlimited resources

Hello!

For single player builder-players, it's very frustrating to see perfectly built big towns crumble because of the fact that stuff like iron, coal (mostly coal) and gold deplete at ridiculous speeds, esp. at campaign maps.

So let me remind you of my old suggestion, to either include a Single player only (of course) toggle option (or cheat) to make the resources never deplete. That way, players like me who enjoy building "perfect" cities could enjoy the perfect village thriving without the annoying need to construct new mines every few minutes (and destroy your carefully thought out serf logistic plan :P)

I asked about this ages ago, and I think Lewin said it's a nice idea back then. I'm really curious if it's going to be implemented anytime soon.

Cheers.

You will find some more information on this topic: viewtopic.php?f=24&t=1097

I know this is for multiplayer, but maybe "if" they implement it, they will also do it for single player.

This idea is good both for SP and MP, but we are not sure on how to exactly implement it in UserInterface. For MP that is easy - a mutator, but for SP and campaigns .. will that be a toggle before starting a map "Easy/Hard", or a cheat code or anything else. We need your ideas here )

I suggest to do it for SP as cheat codes. Unlimited resources does not sound as a 'easy' variant of playing KaM, but as a degeneration of the game! Maybe you could add a new code in the storehouse, just like the 'winning-the-game-cheat'.

Well, we have 2 cheatcodes in Store already, "Win" on the Horsey and "Add +10 wares" on the Arbalet, maybe we can add that cheat on to "Fish" :)

However I never like exhausting resources, especially in AI towns, cos by the time you conquer them all their mines are dead empty and look deserted .. Besides, what is it a town if it exhausts all its resources in 3 hours on the richest land? )

The current winning and +10 resource cheats have an obvious visible effect though. If clicking on the fish made mines unlimited, how would the player know? There needs to be some feedback to the player that the cheat has been enabled.

I don't agree with enabling unlimited resources as an "easy" mode, I think it's more of a cheat or mutator (we could have singleplayer mutators I guess) because it can seriously mess up the balance/purpose of missions, not just make it easier. And what about stone? It's cool that the mountain gets smaller and smaller. Rebuilding mines is part of the gameplay, sure it's not that realistic but it's a necessary gameplay element in my opinion. It also makes iron more valued, because it's limited unlike leather.
But if you are just building a city for fun or something then unlimited would be a great to have as an option/cheat :)

If we wanted to implement an easy mode like that, we could double the amount of resources that can be mined instead of making it unlimited. IMO an easy mode should not change the game rules much, but making things faster/last longer/etc is fine.

You are right )
So the mode needs both visual indication and be a cheat/mutator, not a difficulty option.

Yeah, by all means it's not meant to be a serious option, as it would disrupt balance and stuff... It would be however fantastic for single player builders like me.

Anyone else here likes to simply stare at his perfectly constructed town?

Yes of course :) I once played the town tutorial in TSK for 26 hours and built on the entire map :P

I think that it can be under a button named "Options" or settings" once you click what campaign you want to play. Im talking about when you get the map/select mission screen. There the button/option could be in my opinion :)

I like the idea of having 20 000 chests in my storehouse. :D

Only if we choose it as a 'easy' version of the game.

If it will implemented as cheat, it should IMHO not be located in any options menu (never ever saw a cheat appear in a option menu in a game :D). What could work is if the cheat is enabled, a new 'resource' would appear in the menu of the storehouse, to indicate that unlimited resouces is enabled. I just made a fast design how it could look:

Note: This image is just to show how it will look. The icon I used is just rubbish; The infinity symbol does not look good as well, because i draw it myself :D.

That's a good idea, although people might wondering what it means.

It looks confusing when it is shows in Store like that, player would think it probably means something in Store, but in fact it does not affects Store at all, only Mines/Quary, so it would be more logical to show the symbol there?

why? I dont think you should confuse people with making resources unlimited on the map with a difficulity option like "easy, medium, hard" etc. I think and see it more as a mod/option for the campaign. Granted its not totaly "legit" play but i would not say its a cheat, more like a different game mode or something. Because of that reason i think it would be better of being an option rather than a cheat.

If its implemented like a cheat like that, then you would also have to do it over and over again if you want to play with that "mode" during the campaign, which in my opinion feels kinda stupid. If you need exampels of how similar games and other games have done it, just look at settlers where you select before you start a map how much resources the mines should contain, or age of empires (the same there + death match mode which pretty much gives unlimited too) or Worms where you select amount of everything and so on :)
