Re: Contributions

Hello Thibby )

Buttons style needs to be less flat, KaM is a medieval game and that means icons are probably more sophisticated (see army controls icons for example). I don't mean they should be big though, but they should have some shading and detail in them.

We need only one icon per button, our engine does shading and pressing down automatically. Just an icon with shadow, without button background (that can be easily fixed if you have icons in layers) will be best. Of course to show a preview background is needed and if you can put all 5 buttons with icons on one strip that would be best.

Greets
They are actually shaded.. O.o But I will throw some more black pixels to it. :P
I hope the stop button looks better.

But I keep in mind that the users need a use-friendly module too, these signs are world known so they get their intention imediately. ;)

Thanks(Dank je wel :) )
I don't really think swords would be clear enough, sorry, I think these are prefered by the users, though some could need more shading, true.

Re: Contributions

Shaded is not the same as shadowed ;) The shadows were ok in previous post (although Id make them average from both). I was referring to insides of an icon - it's pure white in color, that is not very pleasant. See this for example: http://graphicriver.net/item/embossed-3 ... les/146647

ahh, well, I can try it but remember that the buttons are rather pixelised to start with, to make them detailed you need to make them epicly big and resize then trough the engine. :P
Anyways, I could try it, fixed the 8 ugly pixels already(thanks to my girl xD) aaand well, we will work on them more in that case.
Ps, I made an invitation messege scroller earlyer(half a year ago) Maybe you like that style.
(Yes, my animater sucks xD)

Re: Contributions

Hi Thibby,
Thanks for posting the buttons, I hope you can improve them and make all of them :) I have a few comments to make:

1. Image Image We just want the bit in the middle, the engine draws the button outline, darkening, etc. All we need is icon that goes on the generic button, like this original from KaM: Image. Of course if you're just doing this to see how it looks that's no problem, but for the final product just send us the icons without the button or darkened version :)

2. As Krom said a bit of embossing/texturing would look nice, for example look at some of the original icons:
Image Image Image
Zoom right in and you'll see they have a lot of texturing, more than just solid white and an outline. It makes them look more 3D and interesting.
ahh, well, I can try it but remember that the buttons are rather pixelised to start with, to make them detailed you need to make them epicly big and resize then trough the engine. :P
That shouldn't be necessary, just take a look at the icons I posted above and try copying some of the colours into yours (when I make graphics for KaM I usually end up copying pixels from original sprites to get a feeling for what it should be like)

3. If we were going to do scroll animations we'd do them in the engine rather than storing each frame of the animation (much less GPU RAM required that way). We don't have any way to let people be invited to games because there's no accounts system, which as we've said before would be a huge amount of effort. I like the idea of popup invites but I don't think it's practical because we'd need the accounts system plus most people don't keep KaM running all day so they mostly wouldn't be online to see your invite. That kind of thing works well through a program like Steam which you leave running all day. (but of course we can't get the game put on Steam because we don't own it)

Lewin is perfectly on spot! )
Thats the difference between one who is good with words (Lewin) and one who is not (me). Message is the same, but it gets written differently.

I would also note that KaM has very nice fonts, so if anyone wants to make a mockup it's better to take those. How to get KaM text? Launch FontEditor, type in the line, printscreen and cutout the background in Photoshop (or any image editing software).

@ Lewin, I see, I'll look at it then and blackening isn't too hard. :) (89 black opacaty over the full field)
But I will work on it some more.

@ krom, it's all fine, sorry for miss understanding.
I also have a tip for everyone who's looking for a FREE graphics program that's editable by a huge amount of FREE plugins, it's a project that started around
paint, yes, paint. Hence it's name is Paint.net. It works amazing and works pretty much like photoshop so here's the link.
http://www.getpaint.net/
It's just a use full tip. :) I even edited some blizzard images on it, yes there is an blizzard image open/store plugin. ;) The plugins are found here.

You don't have to donate, that's all free for your choise.

Re: Contributions

I use The GIMP (free and open source) for image editing, it's even more like Photoshop and I find it very powerful. There's enough plugins/filters to do most stuff you could want.

I don't mind if you want to do the blackening, I'm just saying that we won't use it because our engine does it automatically.

could do too, and I'll just make the buttons and try to make them less annoyingly white, more 3D and "Creme colored".

Re: Contributions

All shadows should have the same direction - bottom-right. Also, all elements should have same height.
