Bo's 'friend or foe' civil war

Hi there,

I'm building a battle map a bit different from others.
Both players form 1 big city together,
but a civil war breaks out and now you have to fight in the city.
The map is still in progress but I have a first version available, so you can tell me what I have to improve, what you think about the concept etc.

If you want to test to notice what should be changed,
dl: http://www.mediafire.com/?fe6fc39z27izdvb
For testing the map it's important:
Loc 1, & 2 for players. (Or AI.)
Loc 3 for AI. (If you don't you won't have any road.)
Start with 5 min of pt so your economic is working when the 'war' starts.
Well, thanks for commenting! :)

First preview of the 'official' map:

This should be the city before the war starts,
I should now find a way to divide the city making it fair for both players and having the economy working,
then I'll put the soldiers on the map. :P

If there are notes about the map, for the city or the terrain, you can still tell me so I can improve it.

Thanks!

Bo

Thats a pretty cool idea, however I would love to see some more map editing too, then this could be a pretty awesome map.

This is just a test to see if it could work, and yes it can. So I'll start all over and make it more interesting.
Do you think it's better that the map is only the centre of a city or that it's a complete city?

Centre of a city would be best just with some evironment around it

Well I'll I'm taking my time so don't wait too long. But thanks.
An other question, is it better to be in a mixed city, like now.
Or that you battle in 1 big city of the a neutral ai?

I think its better to divide the city. so one part is "black".

Well then the map isn't the same anymore. The idea is that there is traffic everywhere that slowes you down.

Overall: A nice idea, though more time should be taken into the project - but I guess what you made was just a sketch, right?

- You should make the roads/buildings more messed up. In kam, as with in real cities, it isn't all "symmetrical", with all the bakeries in a row and farms, etc... Rembember also that there should be trees/uneven terrain in the town to make is as "realistic" as possible, meaning that it should seem as if a player built it in-game.

- About the size of the city... Some people said that it is better to only show the "center", though I would prefer it much more (my opinion) if the whole town were to be visible plus a small area around it (with trees, mountains, hills, rivers, etc)

- About the division of the city:
I think its better to divide the city. so one part is "black".
I guess the best thing is to be half way in between. I mean, divide the town into various "neighborhoods", one of each team, but not leaving all the "neighborhoods" of the same team on one side of the town - that means, divide them equally amidst the town. Each of these neighborhoods also shouldn't be too separated from everything else.

I hope I was clear enough and that my ideas were useful. Thanks in advance for the map :D

Yes, you could call this a sketch. Just to see what this would give.
And yes, I agree it may be good to have some open space.

It's an interesting idea :)
You can make the economy seem to be running by using our new !ADD_WARE_TO command which lets you put a resource into ANY house. So you can fill up the inns, schools, farms, mills, etc. etc. and then it will basically be as if the village was already running and peacetime won't be necessary.
The syntax is:
!ADD_WARE_TO <HOUSE_TYPE_ID> <HOUSE_NUMBER> <WARE_ID> <QUANTITY>

You'll have to edit the script by hand with version 0.3_beta of my editor, but it's not too hard really.

Thanks, it would be much better without pt.
But wich editor do you mean? Mission builder?

I mean Lewin's Mission Editor, which you can download here:
http://lewin.hodgman.id.au/kam/index.ph ... r_download

Version 0.9 is graphical and only supports commands from KaM TPR/TSK. But if you download version 0.3_beta it lets you edit the script manually and can therefore support any commands. The command !ADD_WARE_TO is only in the KaM Remake, so any of the graphical editors designed for KaM TSK/TPR won't support it.

There are other script editors around of course, but mine has buttons for all of the KaM TSK/TPR commands so it's probably more user friendly for beginners.

I don't know how it works but I'll find out.
