Just for fun I?m working on the Carpenter House to rebuild it
with Blender.
As I analyzed the original carpenter bitmap I recognized you really
need fantasy to create a nice 3D model based on the 2D original. :D
(this building is little unreal... :) )
I know it is impossible to recreate the original character in 3D I just want
to have some fun.

EDIT:

Regardless of that I like to know your opinion about translating KaM into 3D ?

Looks fun, well done :)
We didn't tested yet, but maybe we can combine 2D and 3D in KaM Remake someday.. )

Nah, I don't like 3D RTS games. It seems to take away from the game play.

If you center the game about the fact its being #D - yes, gameplay suffers. But if you use 3D only as a tool to achieve better gameplay - all is cool :)

Often 3D feels unnecessary in RTS games. Most of the time 2.5D works fine, e.g. Empire Earth hardly looks better than age of empires (in many places it looks worse IMO) even thought it is 3D and AOE is 2.5D like KaM.
I don't really see a need for it in KaM.

One major advantage of 3D is that you need only 1 model and one texture per unit - after that the unit can walk in any direction and perform any activities at 60fps. As long as his skeletal rigging allows. In traditional 2.5D game like KaM - we need hundreds of sprites just to make few activities at 8 fixed angles and 10 fps.

I would love to test some 3D models within Remake, with fixed perspective and etc.. but thats gonna wait till next year or even longer.

Yes Krom, I think this is a good time! Because now you could concentrate on KaM original..like fix the bugs... And if it is working good and the game is still better as it is now(now it is very good, too. :D) Than I would say you can put in what your dreams says :D

There's an interesting topic at Russian site about making "art 3D" from "standard 3D". Example in question is a background for a quest game, but many of the steps are good for KaM 3D too. There are many pics that spak for themself. Check it out :)
