No SFX problem

I installed KaM Remake on my pc and everything is working well except for the sound effects. I can only hear the music.
I read about a suggested solution that says to run the OpenAL installer in the main folder of KaM Remake. It installed succesfully but it didn't help with the problem.
When installed on other computers in the house everything works flawlessly and that includes launching the remake via Steam to get the overlay.

What might be a possible issue on this computer then?
Here are some specs:
Win 7 x64, Asus P6T Deluxe V2, i7 920, MSI GTX 970, Creative SB X-FI Platinum.

If more info is needed then let me know.

That's strange, usually installing OpenAL fixes that problem. Did you check that the SFX volume is not set too low in the KaM Remake settings?

Yes, I tried setting it to 0, setting it to max, switching it from the menu, switching it in-game,... to no avail.
I also tried the latest version of OpenAL (2.1.0.0), but no dice either.

Simple you forgot to run AND INSTALL oalinst.exe

Because without it you can still hear the music...

Just install it.

if you installed the remake version upon the steam version you might want to verify the integrity of the game files. it could be your sfx files are just missing in the foler.

I ran the verification several times. Each time it turned out positive so the files don't seem to be corrupt or missing.
Unfortunately it didn't solve the issue.

have you tried to delete the local content and redownload it?

Tried that one too. But it's a download of only ~400MB so I thought 'why not' and gave it another go.
No luck though.
