Questions about CPU stuff...

Will the KaM Remake get optimised to use lower amount of CPU?
because I m having problems cos it overheats and its reaching 100% all the time in the menu!
CPU Intel Dual core 2.5ghz
Win vista x32

That's your systems fault. KaM only needs a single core processor to run smoothly (recommended settings) and 1GB of RAM.
Try closing down all background programs and run KaM again. Last resort solution; install Windows 7 or 8.1 because Windows Vista is one big disaster.

Well
On my not so old pc I have like 34% cpu usage but on the old one almost reaches 100%
The orginal tpr takes only 300 MHz Pentium

IIRC KaM Remake will try to stress CPU to render at 25fps. If the system has multicore CPU it will use just one and average will be shown at 1 / number_of_cores. So at 4 core KMR will use 25% of overall CPU at max.

How about adding fps limiter for KaM Remake in options cos it only can be locked with v sync
If so options
No limit fps
60 fps
30 fps
25 fps

Better option would be to fix CPU overheating

Is Kam Remake using cpu features like for example SSE2?
because it can decrase cpu usage

KaM Remake has little to no SSE2 related operations (vector operations, streamed/parallel data processing, computations on packed integers, etc). Commonly data-processing apps can take the biggest advantage of SSE instructions (video decoding, archiving, software rendering, etc.)

I hate it when people think they are better developers than developers, and keep trying to offer solutions which devs are already aware of. If you don't know anything about programming or at least computers in general, there is little sense in advising someone that has more extensive knowledge over a topic than you

And TPR runs on a 300mHz processor because TPR is much older, done in a different way (aiming at older PCs, which doesn't make sense for lots of reasons), uses slightly less max players than Remake (6?) etc.
That being said, it used to happen for me that my laptop was heating quite a bit in the menu (it basically seemed to me that the actual game heats the laptop as much as the menu). Might be the fault of me using Wine under Linux though

and in the latest Remake version everything seems to be fine

Well I have problems too. Of course it's because my laptop's fan isn't working properly, but I noticed that with some other games, like Age of Empires II, it isn't such a big issue. So I agree it feels like KaM Remake isn't very efficient.
But I just need that damned fan fixed.

Even better, buy a desktop. Notebooks/laptops aren't designed for gaming, the main purpose is to work without a fixed location.
@Michalpl: clean the dust out of your machine. Remember to do it gently and try not to damage anything. This will make a huge difference.

I think we've long past the age where laptops are "not meant for gaming." Almost everyone I know (who is around my age) has a laptop, and the primary purpose is for gaming. For example, laptops are far more useful for LAN parties, as bringing a laptop to someone's house is much easier than bringing a desktop. Similarly, I bring my laptop with me when I visit my parents or grandparents, as I like to have something to do while I am there.
Of course, desktops will always be superior, but it's not accurate to say that a laptop isn't meant for gaming, especially on a forum of a game from 1998.
OT I know

@sado: I'm happy to answer such questions, because they allow to recheck facts and reconsider situation. Maybe something was overlooked, we are people too and people make mistakes. Still thanks for defending us!
@TDL: Optimizing CPU usage is relatively low priority to us. We have a lot to do and fixing something that is ain't broken has a low priority compared to everything else. I hope you can get your fan fixed soon

Krom what about option in KaM Remake to set max cpu usage?
cos being on 100% makes you unable to close game or use mouse
and what about an option to enable loading sprites scripts in background into ram while being in menu or lobby?

We can not control max CPU usage in an easy way.
100% CPU usage should not block your mouse or prevent from closing the game. Does it really happen?
It would be good to run that in a second thread, but amount of rework is huge. Doubt this is reasonable for us.
