Treating towers as soldiers (food)

I find it really weird and annoying that towers are treated like any other building. In a real life guarding situation a guard in a guard tower wouldn't leave his position unless there is someone to cover for him.

So my suggestion/question is:
Would it be possible to treat towers like your army, and have your serfs deliver food to them?

You just can't trust a tower right now, since it might just be unmanned when an enemy attacks.

In the original campaign it was a deliberate weakness of towers (especially AI). Player could camp till some towers are empty and launch at attack on them.

That's actually a pretty good point: It would make sense to take the food to the tower. However, anything that gives towers a bonus is a negative in my book. Terrible things.

Towers aren't /that/ strong. And shouldn't you be able to make your base strong? And still, I don't know if it is possible, but I guess map builders can limit the amount of towers a player can build? For online player(s) vs. player(s) that would even it out again.

Also: it doesn't really give a tower a bonus, it only makes them more dependable. You can still empty towers by quickly walking past them, and blocking there supplies.

Yes, it gives towers a bonus. If this isn't a bonus, then what else is it? A penalty?

And if a smart player is making towers, then they are very strong.

It doesn't make towers more powerful, only that when you place a tower somewhere you know it will at least throw its stones when an enemy comes within reach.

In a way it may be a bonus, but a pretty sensible one I think.

Thanks for your reply :)

Are you mocking me? :P Would be a nice idea, but that would be really annoying :P

In my language, I call it a bonus, because that is what it is :P
It makes the tower better, and you have my most sincere negative vote because of it.

I get your point, still I would like to read the opinion of other people too

You do realize that when the recruit is in the tower it does 100% dmg on hit .. right ?
If you want to have the recruit more often in the tower build an Inn right next to it.

Yeah, but that is on a hit. In my experience a tower misses quite often. And as a tower only has 5 stones, they aren't that effective at all.

I guess I get what you guys are 'afraid' of: people online only building towers as defense, resulting in a thick impregnable layer of towers. I agree that should not happen, but right now I think recruit leaving to eat kinda defeats it's purpose.

Maybe it is possible to slightly alter the damage inflicted by a tower (again?).. For example: a hit on a non shield/steel bearing unit is 100%? Wooden shield: 95%, steel armor: 70%, steel armor + shield: 50%?
I don't even know if KaM works this way, but it is just an idea.

Personally I would prefer to see towers unchanged apart from the serfs taking food to the recruits, but I would like to keep the discussion going and read some opinions.

Knights have a weakness against pikes. Does that defeat the purpose of knights? Of course not. Towers have a weakness of an empty stomach. Does that defeat the purpose of a tower? Of course not.

I think that towers are good the way they are. true defence doesnt come from your towers but from your army. The better you build your city, the better your defence will be.
