Not connecting paths work?

Hello,
sometimes when you build a path you don't have to connect every tile.
X resembles a pathtile
.X
. X
. X...
and serfs will walk like that, but not always?!
The normal connected path would be:
.XX
. XX
. XX ...
When does this work and when doesn't it work?

The path on the right of your screenshot only works if there's already a normal path leading to the house your serf is going to.

Yes. Each building has to have a normal road. These diagonal roads only work as shortcuts: they are not normal roads, but if there's a normal road to a building the serf is heading to, he will use the diagonal road.

Also for example, if you are given a storehouse far from your base (often in TSK), diagonal roads may not work. This is because if there is an object on the tile you have left your road out from, it will "block" the path (even if it's a little stone). So rather build a continuous road in those cases

In the original game, diagonal roads function as the main road to the house this way you can make your serfs deliver resources to the const. sites even if there is only a diagonal road available, with the only rule described above :p
