Indeed; I see the marketplace as a building that can keep you from running out of resources like gold ore, coal, iron ore and stone. Sometimes I trade for gold chests because it can be more convenient, but that's about it. But if not necessary, you won't see a marketplace in my towns.

Oh and let me add that it may also be used in case of emergencies, like no food or timber.

You trade food for timber, and then build a market.

Ask sado. I hear he is the master at running out of timber (even before building an inn!!) so he probably has experience in this situation.

All we now is, he's NOT sado. But he IS sado's market-abusing cousin!

Dark Lord dislike to Market points to 2.0 and earlier versions, because of having obvious advantage over normal production (at early base phase).
Actually if you read him, he agrees with market after PT... the motive he builds it in corner is just to tease with his reputation. Good luck guys.
