New chat sounds

Our sound engineer sent us some new ideas for the chat sound, so I thought we'd get people to vote on them and write their opinions :)
Download:
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/93063502/Chat.zip

Instructions:
1. Browse to "KaM Remake\Sounds\Chat"
2. Extract .zip file there
3. Delete/rename the existing sound, then rename each one of the new ones (e.g. ChatArrive_paper.wav) to ChatArrive.wav so the Remake will use them.
4. Start the Remake, go to the lobby and write some messages to yourself.
5. Rename one of the other files to test it. You do not need to restart the Remake between switching files, it will use the new one automatically.
6. Vote in the poll above!

Please note the volumes can easily be changed, so tell us if you think it's too quiet or too loud. (don't cast your vote based on volumes)

You can of course play the files in another audio player, a lot of them (e.g. VLC) seem to struggle to play really short files like that, that's why I suggested you test them in the Remake. It also gives some context and you can see how they feel in the KaM world.

Please also write your opinions bellow :)
Cheers,
Lewin.

Great! I also have my personal sound engineer :O (KaM fan).
He made me this small pack in case you are interested as well.

I admit the "paper.wav" is accurate for the chat, but weak...
My personal sound engineer provided me "paper 1/2.wav" (louder), which can compete against "tada.wav".

He presented also an alternative for Beacon. But I said to him that we already had one which was nice...

My vote goes for "paper2.wav" from his sound works. Probably better than "ta-da" IMO.

Ta-da or Click, can't really decide.

I personally like ta-da, it has become a signature Remake sound for me. I think it fits nicely in the KaM universe. Now that it's quieter than in r3392 I think it's less annoying/disruptive when you hear it over and over.
I don't like the paper sounds so much because they're not sharp enough in my opinion. I think the chat needs a sharp distinct sound.
I think pop sounds too modern and out of place with the game.

It surprises me that only I voted on Click sound, I agree with Lewin:
I think the chat needs a sharp distinct sound.
and the Click sound is just what I wanted to hear as chat sound - not as intrusive as TaDa, but sharp enough. So, Click for chat, TaDa for game events.

From which game is the paper sound? is it the sound to close messages in the game? or a bit different?

We don't copy sounds (or any assets) from other games. The sounds were made by trb1914 as you can see in our credits page. The sounds I posted here are all unique ones that he made.

Well, on one hand, half of the voters wants TaDa to stay, on the other hand, another half prefers something else. Why not just leave the choice for the player? The chat sound should be split into 2 files - one for chat notification sound, the other for game events like join/quit/timeout etc. Both files would be the same (TaDa) by default, but if someone wants to have other chat sound than game event sound, he can change the file in Sounds\Chat\.

That'd be cool.
