Re: KaM Remake nightly build

if you mean hotkeys to already existing buildings, they do exist. Just press CTRL + (any number you want) and it sets the hotkey. pressing the number once selects the house you want, presssing it twice centers the camrea on the hotkeyd house.

About HotKEys and back to the lobby under the game. Possible to save the hotkeys/game?

Yeah Thunder is right, i asked for it also longer time ago. He means, if you set your hotkeys for the army and co. and load a saved game sp or mp, you have to set those again.

Hotkeys are already saved for singleplayer, but since hotkeys are not synced across the network (stored on your local client only) they are not saved in multiplayer. We should add a way to synchronise these things in the background so they can be saved. I put it on my todo list.

However, Hargon was asking for shortcut keys to select houses in the build menu. I think there are too many houses to do this, in fact there are 27 houses and yet only 26 letters in the alphabet :P You can open the build menu with F1 though (F1-F4 are the 4 main tabs).

Re: KaM Remake nightly build

Yeah I agree. You can open those menus with the F buttons, like Lewin just wrote + mostly I for example set the barracks and the schools at one random key also bia ctrl+ , that should be enough imo.

It would be possible to use two key sequence (column/row), e.g. Q-R and A-L but I've no idea if this would work good enough.

Re: KaM Remake nightly build

I think this is more complicated and wouldn't make anything easier. One other problem that you shouldn't forget, if you want for every building a key (a combo of meys), then the keys should be easy to remember. However the "Swinefarm" or the "School" start bkth with the same letter, just as an example, also notice that every language would need a different key layout then. :D So I rather think, it's easier to keep using mouse + F buttons for menus + ctrl combo keys :?

Re: KaM Remake nightly build

It's not that you have to input some crazy combination, just use keys to select a building from active column, or if necessary switch column and then select a building from it, to make it clear how is this supposed to work here is a pic..
test.png
So, when you go to "building menu" you will see that one column is selected, you will be able to switch selection by hitting a key, i.e. Q will select first column, W will select second, etc.
When you hit any of the A-J, the building at the row/column intersection gets selected, you will be able to select another building from the same column by hitting another key.

Obviously there are some issues, namely some of the keys are already used - we can't use numbers and the same goes for some of the letters (we would have to do some moving around).

PS:
Since building from the same production "chain" are placed in rows rather than columns it would be better to use persistent selection for rows instead of columns but I already made the pic so.. anyway you get the idea ;)

Re: KaM Remake nightly build

Ah sorry, now I understand  This seems more "easy". However I personaly don´t see still any harm why it would help the Player. OK I agree, if you make roads, it can be usefull to have a shortcut for it, unless in a normal economy game you make more than 100 roadtiles, but why you need a shortcut for the other buildings? I would still need longer, to figuere out what a "mill" is for example, instead of clicking 2 buttons and click once again somwhere, to place the building finally (?)

Maybe it´s only my personal opinion :D but I really don´t know why a column should get an own letter.

BTW: Yeah, you are right with already used buttons. For example the fighting buttons, that are only activated while a Group of troops is selected.

Lets put this this way - I don't mouse for anything that has a keyboard shortcut available and I can imagine I'm not the only one, this is a lot faster and less distracting for the player (you don't have to move the cursor between "game" and "menu" all the time).

Yeah:) "shortcut keys" I mean this. I know we have binds, which I'm using (It must have to use it if you want be fast). I want be faster and use "shortcut keys" for example for main building like school and maybe for road.

Game starts and I'll click F1+S and click on ground to build school. It's cool and it's standart for strategist games. It's idea. For me a good idea. Just think about it.

And idea: Maybe create menu for this. Everyone can set up "shortcut key" to building which he wants.

example menu in options of KaM:

BUILDING............. "shortcut key"
storehouse ....... ........... A
school ........................ S
farm .......................... F
barracks................... -set key-
stonemason............... -set key-
.
.

e.g. make function to shift+"key" for "-set key-" and anyone have a choice to choose his own "shortcut key" for any building which he wants :)

Making all shortcuts configurable in a settings menu is on the todo list, but not a high priority.
