I also wondered about it .. too long, for example, a tree can not burn ... but what about buildings? And burn themselves by the fire, will not be destroyed ... what is more, they are still working on them people ... Following another line of thinking - we have a deciduous tree and without leaves ... After burning >> "bare tree". Personally, I'm going to use a flame to tactical missions .. and so max 15-20 min (at that time, nothing has to quickly burn ).... When it comes to golf ... then after burning, there may be other tiles . everything is available in the remake. No new objects. :)

Houses burning is a cheat. There are no easy way of showing to a player that the house is damaged, yet that info is very important. Painting several sprite layers showing different ways of damage is a lot of work for the artist, especially when that needs to be combined with existing occupants and work animations. So the fire are a compromise between "easy-to-make" and "realizm".

Applying fire to other objects is not a tradeoff between some need and some implementation, but a separfte feature in itself. And implementing that feature on "cheats" is a bad idea. Burning trees need a proper burned result, they would also need a believable way of igniting, sane burning length .. We don't have all of that readymade. Hacking the things together to simulate that will look just as hacky as it sounds.

I like the idea of changed textures. The fact that your screenshot is done with overlays doesn't matter. As long as the visuals are good - and they are :)

Hey, I like the night idea. I think it is just cosmetic change, nothing more. Units and buildings should shine like they do in avoid building mode.

How do we decide when it's night time? Does it cycle every 20 minutes or so like Minecraft? To be honest I don't really like the way night time looks, it's harder to see and makes the game look kind of dull compared to normal, and the contrast between houses/terrain is jarring. I don't really see much value in it from a cosmetic point of view.

Would anybody actually prefer playing the game in night mode if it's only a cosmetic change?

Only cosmetic for me. Obviously sleeping town is out of question. Still, it's a bit too much work, to make it look nice you have to make night version of building. Ever considering such amount of work I'd rather put that effort to make snow, arabic and barbarian/nordic buildings ; P (Or undead ones so to speak lol )

I don't know how it is in Minecraft but I think night after some time(maybe every 20-30 minutes?) would be fine. It could last about 10 minutes.
Now i have an idea about night options ;). In the night we could refuse less fog of war than at day time :P.

Well, and if you would do something like this: tree illuminated (1 flame lit), the time the flame is more (so much that you could not see leaves on the tree). Then the flame is getting less (in the meantime "appears" tree without leaves). And that's it ... in my opinion, it will look natural.

Btw, the fire must not only serve to burn something. There are, after fires (no new tiles, screen below). You can also do other things with fire ... Again, a quick mission (tactical) do not have to burn quickly. So Krom is not a problem, the addition of these few flames as objects? (To the test, we can check it in the beta ..). What do you think?

As for the night: I personally do not like the screen, which gave Lewin ... It's too dark .. you can not see ... By the time I saw a different view (see back page), I decided to offer this view, as the night the remake. It is so apparent that he was introduced to the game. I do not think that it is boring and monotonous, quite the contrary. People do not have to go to bed ... can still work .. why not? Currently, the work without interruption - 0 of rest (only when they go to the inn). It's just a game and nothing will be in it 100% real. However, it should be OK visually, imo. Night does not have to be long ... 5, 10 min max? Day 30-40 minutes? In my opinion it would be more feasible if the Kam, was placed on the night and the day ... A fire without wood and without noone to look after it, in a middle of nowhere ..

Maybe if you rig some more demo screenshots.

The night does not look spectacular. IMO it would look good with dynamic lighting, stars and moon .. oops I forgot for a moment that it's impossible.

Hi,

NIGHT - Its not good idea - can you fight at night ? Can you differentiate your troops from enemy troops (color will be almost same)? Do you thing corn/wine/trees/pig/horse can grow up in (less than) one day ?

BURNING - when you damage enemy building, this building can not work for 100% (for example more time to do weapon,armor,pig,horse, train citizen ... or more delay when serfs go to/leave house...

its just my opinion :-)

It seems to me that it's better than nothing (that night). Sun, birds, clouds, also no. If you add flames to the objects it is possible, why do not you try? I can prove something, but without the flame does not make sense ... But you can always remove it ...At the moment, I'm just asking only the flames as objects.

EDIT: Smoula, do not you ever heard of the attack at night? O.Ö. It would be great for new missions (eg the campaign). Look at the screen, which I gave .. everything on it is shown ... So I do not understand what you mean ...

Flames as objects will only make sense when we'll be able to add/remove objects with dynamic scripts in which case the mapmaker can chose himself wether the flame stays for the whole duration of the map or if they extinguish after a time (and eventually add ruins, dead trees etc ...).
But it can be confusing for the player, if he sees one of his buildings in flames without damages or other odd things.

Shadaoe: why I wrote that, Mapmakers depends only on how the map will look like.
It is difficult to prove something when you do not have this in editor...

Hmmm, in terms of gameplay, it came to me right now it might be a good moment for a fog of war reset. So once a 20 min you loose your revealed terrain and you have to scout more than just once at the begining. Well it's the only good gameplay feature connected with nighttime I can think of and still I guess lot of people would dislike this. Of course it might be optional - but again we all know that we can add a lot of cool 'optional' stuff, but unfortunately by doing so - divide the playerbase. Like with speed up, there are some who dont like playing PT x1,5, not to speak about x3 speed.
