Re: Official KaM Remake Ideas topic

How do we decide when it's night time? Does it cycle every 20 minutes or so like Minecraft? To be honest I don't really like the way night time looks, it's harder to see and makes the game look kind of dull compared to normal, and the contrast between houses/terrain is jarring. I don't really see much value in it from a cosmetic point of view.

Would anybody actually prefer playing the game in night mode if it's only a cosmetic change?
Empire Earth had a neat way of having nightmode. In certain campaign missions that would take place over several years, there wouldn't be a night/day cycle. However, in campaigns that would take place over several days, there would be a night/day cycle. It was possible with the editor to determine how long the daytime interval was and it was also possible to use triggers to skip to day/nighttime.

If this mode is implemented, I'd only want to see it used for custom campaigns.

Re: Official KaM Remake Ideas topic

What do you say to make an option for every player to choose colors for his allies and enemies which he will see in the game?
For example he choose to see every his ally player as green, every enemy player as red and his own army as blue?
The same thing is available in Warcraft III. It is very usefull because there is often a situation when players choose 3 "yellows" and sometimes i dont know which troops are mine and which are my ally/enemy :P.

Good idea, but when you want (for example) to send message like : pink player - please HELP (or something like this - with real color ) or want know who has the largest city/army on minimap ... sollution is switching between real colour (all "different") and ally/enemy (green/red as you wrote) - solution is extra button on border of minimap , which allow to switching between these 2 (or more) modes .

Re: Official KaM Remake Ideas topic

I've always thought that KaM was kinda rude in how you couldn't tell if a building was "unlockable" in a certain scenario until you've built the building's prerequisite. In the map's description, some mapmakers will give a list on what buildings are blocked, but that's not entirely ideal.

I propose that at the start of each game, instead of having the normal question mark icon for blocked buildings in the building screen, the actual icon for the respective blocked building is visible but with an x crossing it out or something similar.

I'm interested in what other people think about this.

This suggestion might come in handy i think. How about the server info shows besides the map and players also the set pt and gamespeed(s)?

night and day mode can be interesting online, imagine you scouted an area and have vision on it, but at night time there is fog of war over it, that would make it alot more interesting purely from battle point of view, dont you agree, Ben?

Re: Official KaM Remake Ideas topic

That's an interesting idea, but I'm still not sure I like it. If we were to cover an enemy base back up with fog, I'd rather just be playing with FoW. Maybe it's just because I'm not used to the concept, but I don't like the idea of not seeing what I've explored and then suddenly "exploring" that part of the map again; rinse and repeat.

Have you seen Sado's script for FoW? It's pretty nice and I think that it might be able to work if he sorts out the technical issues (not sure where that progressed; stopped following it after a while).

Re: Official KaM Remake Ideas topic

Yeah... I stopped improving it after a while, when I realized that my favourite tester with his wooden pc (Ben) stopped joining TS :P I needed to stress test my script to see whether it'll work efficient enough. For now, I'm sure that the script works well when you don't care about your teammates. In a newer version I made a try to enable shared vision (it needs to be done manually for each of your allies, which sucks) but have yet to test the efficiency. I promise to get back to the script in a few days.

I am sorry to say, Sado, that my PC has been upgraded, so I can no longer be your test dummy :D

Idea for the chat function:

make it possible to adress a whole team. So you don't have to speak to each member of an opponent team but the whole team.
This is needed if more than 2 teams are present (FwF).

That's kind of hard unless teams have names because we can't display all of the team members in the selection box. I agree it could be a useful feature though.

Re: Official KaM Remake Ideas topic

Well, the teams have the number which is shown in the lobby. But you're right that we need to show player names too. Maybe you could do the same I'm doing in FwF and just indicate with a color which player is in that team.

Guys what do you think about minigames in lobby like scrabble or cards? :P Sometimes waiting in lobby is really boring so minigames could help kill time :P.
