It just occurred to me that since the Cyrillic alphabet has this way of using different symbols for some italic letters, would it be more correct to use the italics type letters in the fonts (or at least in the more cursive fonts like antiqua.fnt and maina.fnt) or doesn't it really matter all that much?

I mean this. Should the fonts be based on the italic letters (might look better) or should I keep them regular?

I think it will look better if you use these italic-like symbols :)

P.s. Thank you so much for putting such efforts into making Russian translation better!

Any feedback would be appreciated. Think ъ and ь might look too similar making them hard to differentiate. Also, that Ж looks real weird IMO, is that really how it's supposed to look like in italics?

I can't say anything bout the single letters. Can you phrase some words with them for example? (I have Internet access only from work now, and your image is not FontEditor compatible)

These letters seem to look wrong:
Л (should be more like Д without lower line, not like П)
б (should look like д with longer end)
в (too small)
д (will look very similar to б after its fixed, otherwise letter is ok)
п (should be more like л, not like latin "n")
ъ (you can make the tail longer, it's ok)

All in all - great work on the fontset!

Sorry for not getting back on this earlier, had some computer trouble and finding the right backup CDs was some tedious work.
Л (should be more like Д without lower line, not like П)
So you think the "legs" should be more curvy?
п (should be more like л, not like latin "n")
It looks exactly like a latin "n" in this picture. The wikipedia article on the letter also claims that the italic version of the letter looks almost like a latin n. Are you saying that is incorrect?

Л: I mean it should be more like /\ rather than rectangle, also it looks very similar to П which is confusing.

п: in current writing it's straight, not italic, hence it either should be italic (skewed) or alike л, but less curvy :)

Sorry I can't provide a drawing myself :(

Just in case, I'm not a programmer, but if you need to translate something, give me a shout. Studdying in England and natively know Russian, therefore, can translate texts on a decent level.

As a matter of fact, I do need quite a lot of translating into Russian done. Here's the readme for the patch that needs to be completely translated. Also here's the manual which has been updated a bit from the original so there are a few untranslated lines scattered about. See the included notes.txt to see the stuff that needs to be fixed in the manual.

If you don't know HTML, feel free to put the translated texts into a text file in such a structure that I know what text goes where.

EDIT: Removed URLs, if you're still interested check the stickied topic regarding translations for up to date files.

I just realized that since the original Latin alphabet based antiqua.fnt doesn't use the "one-storey" lowercase a, the artist probably didn't intend the fonts to be italic, just a little bit leaning or oblique. So I don't think I will be using italic Cyrillic letters after all (thank god, they looked horrible).

Here's the character set that I'm thinking about calling final for now so if you have an option, now is the time to make it heard!

(dropped д down by one pixel since taking the shots, think it looks better)

Current gripes:
- Л and П too similar?
- Letters seem to slightly overlap each other in some cases, don't know if it has always been the case but just noticed it in this screenshot (check the first word on the second row: Выдолжны)?
