Lewin, I tested your program today, but it crashed when I saved it! Well, not your program, but KaM.

Hi,
Thanks TDL, bug fixed. It was the same problem Thunderwolf reported, with Dutch setup.lib files. In 0.6 it didn't crash, instead it just wrote it out wrongly.
Here is 0.6.5:
http://lewin.namsys.com.au/kam/downloads/LIBDecoder-0.6.5.zip
I've also added some nice menu icons and Go to number/index.
Please send me any other feature requests soon, as I'm going to go back to the mission editor at some point. I've had a look at the Unicode (russian/polish) bug. I really can't work out what is happening. I think KaM uses it's own special char set for them. (this will make it almost impossible to fix, unless I make my own special font for it) Find/replace will be implemented soon. Do you think a more advanced undo redo is necessary? At the moment it only allows one undo. Also do people think I should categorises things or not? Is it worth the trouble or do you think just a list is ok?
Keep reporting bugs!
Enjoy!
Lewin.

I think that is not necessary, after all when one starts adding texts he knows what he is doing and relies on backups mostly (thats my usual practice though, can't promise for others).

It would be nice to categorize everything at least into several big chunks (Menu, missiontexts, UI), so to make missiontexts editing more obvious. Another idea would be to load both lib files at once, do you think thats of any use?

Hello,
Version 0.7.1 has now been released:
http://lewin.namsys.com.au/kam/downloads/LIBDecoder-0.7.1.zip
Changes:
- Support of Polish and most other central European characters. (Hungarian too I think)
- Non-breaking spaces (7F) are now displayed as &NBS; and can be added
- Mistake corrected that meant indexes displayed are wrong for in-game messages (hence the new "In-Game Index" displayed)
- Fixed up the Go To dialogue a bit
- Added a button to convert all unused strings (FF byte pars) to empty usable strings. So now you don't need to override the old strings when adding your own in-game messages.
- A few minor bugs/changes fixed

Known issues:
- Unicode (Russian) is not supported

To be added in next release: (I will continue working on this project now, next release in a week or so once I've done these things)
- Buttons along the top for easy placement of Polish/Hungarian characters
- EXE icon
- Help file
- Disable unused strings (opposite of Enable unused strings. All blank strings will become FF byte pars)
- Add search feature

Things I probably won't add:
- Unicode support (I don't know how to)
- Categories (I want the strings displayed in the order they are in the file. I might add this later as an option you can turn on or off)
- Undo/redo - This would be a lot of work (I would need to do all the history keeping manually) so I don't really see the point. Also, as Krom said, Keep a backup!

I haven't updated my LIB decoding document, but I will soon.
This version was a bit rushed as I found out some very strange things about unused strings that you can read about when I release the decoding document.
Enjoy, and don't forget to report bugs! (I haven't done really thorough testing on this version)
Lewin.

This is great! You have no idea how much easier my life is going to be thanks to this update! :)
Just did a quick test and it does indeed save the file exactly as it was (so it no longer discards the unknown values)
I don't have time to test today as it's getting quite late, but I'll be sure to let you know if I find any problems.

You know, once I'm done with SR3 I should attempt doing a Finnish translation with this. :D Luckily the font is already there as Finnish uses much the same letters as German.

Hey Guys!
Another major update!
http://lewin.namsys.com.au/kam/downloads/LIBDecoder-0.8.zip
Changes: (in order of how major they are)
- Disabled strings (FF byte pars) are now shown as blank strings, and when saving, blank strings are saved as disabled strings.
- Added "Add New String" and "Remove Last String" buttons to the menu.
- Added search feature
- Fixed a bug that meant the index for the last string in the file wouldn't save properly, resulting in a problem if you change it.
- Added buttons along the top for easily placing Polish characters. If I have missed any or there are characters for other languages you'd like me to include, please let me know!
- Incorrect values set by The Barbarian/The Knight's editor are now automatically removed.
- Added an icon to the EXE
- The form now resizes much nicer, and should work ok on smaller resolutions.
- Lots of other little fixes/changes that I can't think of right now...

I'd highly recommend upgrading!
Currently the only things left on my todo list for this project are:
- Add support for Unicode (Russian) - I don't know how to do this
- Add undo/redo - Can't be bothered, it would be too much work
- Write help file - I might get around to this, if I can think of something worth putting in it.
- Update decoding documentation (I have discovered some new stuff) - I will be doing this next.

If you have another suggestion or find a bug then I'd love to know about it!
This means that once I've done the doco, I'll go back to making the mission editor. It's about time too, I have a todo list for it a mile long! The LIB Decoder took a lot of time but I think it was worth it, even just to make Litude happy.

So, please let me know what you think!
Lewin.

Well, no one else is commenting on my new version so I will.
I think it's a great release, and it will make editing the LIB files so much easier for me! I especally like the way it lets you add new strings, very useful. Thank me very much Lewin!
Seriously, I didn't post just to say that. I really wanted to say that I've updated my LIB Documentation. There are now only 4 unknown bytes, I found out what 2 of them are for.
Here you go:
http://lewin.namsys.com.au/kam/downloads/Lewins-LIB-Decoding_version_1.2.doc
It's as a DOC again, as Litude didn't seem so keen on PDFs.
Lewin.
P.S. Has anyone actually downloaded or used this release? I'd like some feedback guys!

Hello,
I have yet another release of my LIB Decoder ready:
http://lewin.namsys.com.au/kam/downloads/LIBDecoder-0.8.1.zip
This release is dedicated to The Dark Lord, for reporting the bug.
Changes:
- Fixed a bug that caused KaM to crash if the first string in a file is blank
- Now confirms if you'd like to save when you open a new file
- Message displayed if no search result found

I did have some other things I was going to include but I didn't bother. I am focusing on the mission editor, and a new release of that should be out shortly. (with a huge number of bugs fixed)

I will welcome all futher bug reports.
Lewin.

translation and accents

hi every body !

firstly, I am french, nobody is perfect ! :D
I'm discover your forum after a search of an LIB decoder !

I was searching it to translate "the Peasants Rebellion" in French ! Why ? because there is no game avaiable ... and the two games i posseded are in french for TSK and german for TPR

I almost traduce the text_lib and the file_lib

that log is great !!!

the last problem a meet (find?) is about the special caracters that we (french people) used in our langage ...

the accents like :" ? " , " ? " , " ? " , " ? " , " ? " and the famous " ? "

the log is ok for introduce that in the text , but they do not appear on the game ...

what do I change so it works ?
is it possible to replace the german fonts with the french ?

thank's for help ! ... if you can ...

and sorry for the faults i've done

From what I can see it seems like the characters are found from the game font files, but you can still try replacing the font files if you want to. They are located at data/gfx/fonts, so copy over them from your version of TSK and replace the ones in the font folder of TPR.
Note that the maina.fnt from TSK and the maina.fnt from TPR are not compatible, so do not copy over this file!

Nice! A French person! We add him to our collection ''People from all over the world''. xD
Sorry, I'm just talking nonsense.

If I understand you correct in TSK those accents showed up, and in TPR they don't?

I'm KaM fan since the begin (1998) and there are a lot of french people who look to a suite ...

translations that I do are for my children more than for myself!
I do not have too many problems with the German language

i look in the german fonts , with "KaM Graphics Reader", there are others accents : ? ? ? β ...etc.
not the same as the french version ...

thank for the typ , and sorry for the double post

Litude, could you make French one of the langauges for SR3? If Fitz is happy to translate for you, then it wouldn't be too hard at all. Then you could make the font files for him. (where is mainia used BTW?)
I think we should support as many languages as possible.

@Fitz: If you're wondering what we are talking about Litude is currently working on a fan made patch for TPR, (called Service Release 3) aiming to fix many of the bugs. Would you like to help do a French translation?
I'm glad you like my program, please report bugs and make suggestions if you have any!
Lewin.
