Because as far as I know Asia's main connection to Europe is via America, so you have the usual ping to America plus the distance across the pacific ocean to Asia. Here in Australia the route to Europe always goes through America, and I imagine Asia is mostly the same (western Asia like India might go the other way around the world, I'm not sure).

You can test it yourself in the command prompt: "tracert <ip>" (or "traceroute" if you are on Linux/Mac). Then look at the hosts in the route and you can usually figure out where they are (they often have the city name like syd for Sydney, lax for Los Angeles, ams for Amsterdam, etc.).
