Dutch Speeches

Me(dargonslayer) and my friend(mike 1706) are both Dutch. We came with the idea to make some Dutch speeches for the dutch players.
We are now in are final exams so we will begin in 2 weeks from now (I think). When we recorded some of the speeches we'll post some of them to get some feedback  . (what do you like/dislike, where need of improvement)

Re: Dutch Speeches

Would be a nice addition however I listened to some of the mp3 files for different languages and to be honest it doesn't (and never will I guess) sound as good.
This is because the original English sounds/voices have this special "old style" soundings to it which IMO can't be accomplished in other languages.
But I'm sure some of the Dutch users will appreciate it so give it a go if you have the time to record and some good music equipment.
One suggestion if I may: make sure you are in an absolute quiet room with no background noises when recording. If possible try to use a small room that sounds dense so you won't create a "hall" effect.
Good luck!

Re: Dutch Speeches

@Vjeetn Yes, I'm recording my speeches in a closed & silend room.
The voice are good but not like the original of the English speeches.
I'm almost finished with the militia. When I'm done I'll post them here

I might be able to do some after-editing in Audacity if necessary, after you've posted it here.
Nice coffee is always nice.

I'm sorry for this but I tried like 5 upload sites but non of them can upload files into a map. So all the uploaded speeches are spread over these links (?) :|
I hope you like it, though

DELETED

AGAIN: I'M VERY SORRY ABOUT THIS :(
If you know how to upload in a map, please tell me

Re: Dutch Speeches

Use 7zip, or winrar to compress all the files into one archive, then upload it, it's indeed quite a mess if one wants to donwload all these :p

Re: Dutch Speeches

You're welcome, happy to help ;)

I actually don't know a word of Dutch, but I listened to your recordings to have an idea of the sound quality.
It seems quite good, excepted some little "cracking" when you speak too loud.
It must have been quite fun to record the death sounds :p

Re: Dutch Speeches

Nice work :)
I've spent quite a bit of time recording voices for TPR (rogue, warrior, vagabond, TPR campaign briefings etc.) so I have a bit of experience doing this kind of thing, and it's quite difficult to get things to sound the way you want them. (I took lots of recordings of each action and picked the best ones)

Looking at the files in an audio editor I can see that the volume is maxing out quite regularly, creating distortion. (you can sometimes hear this as crackles like Shadaoe mentioned) To avoid this, hold the microphone much further away from your mouth. When I recorded the TPR briefings I was using a gaming headset with a fold out microphone and I found that putting the mic about level with my eyes and speaking in a normal voice gave the best results. When I did the unit voices I put the microphone about 20cm away from my face.

By doing this you will get a quieter recording which you can then amplify later. (I or someone else here can help you with amplifying it in a way that doesn't create distortion) Basically your recording should never be hitting maximum volume, because if it is, it's distorting at least a little bit. Your recording should always be less than the maximum volume.

format0.wav and storm0.wav are examples of sounds that is NOT distorted because it does not hit maximum volume :)
storm1.wav is an example of a sound that IS distorted because it hits maximum volume for most of the sound :(

Another piece of advice I learnt: Listen back to the recordings using headphones not a speaker (unless you have really good quality speakers) because it's much easier to hear the detail with headphones.
I can't judge the quality of the voice because I don't speak Dutch :P

If people want to test this in-game, create a folder under "data\sfx" called "speech.dut" and extract the "militia" folder into there so you end up with "data\sfx\speech.dut\militia\attack0.wav" and all the other files. Then play the game with the language set to Dutch.

Keep up the good work!
Lewin.
