Hunger level for new units

I noticed that new units leaving from the school start with a variable 50% - 75% full hunger level. Soldiers leaving the barracks start with a fixed 65% full hunger level. Both levels are my estimates. That made me wonder: is this actually logical, or realistic?

If I think about somebody finishing highschool, I imagine that he/she would celebrate its [stonemason/woodcutter/carpenter/etc] diploma by going out for dinner and drinking a lot, right? That would encourage setting a low hunger level after training. Alternatively, for soldiers leaving the barracks, I imagine this: "Here, [axe fighter/sword figther/pikeman/etc ], enjoy your last meal at the barracks. Now, off you go and start slaughtering the enemy for me!". That would encourage giving soldiers a high hunger level when they leave the barracks :)

Regardless of what would be 'realistic', what would be nice for KAM gameplay? For example, soldiers having a very low hunger level when leaving the barracks would imply that you would always need to feed them first, before they could fight, which in turn, implies that you need to focus more on sufficient food stock levels. A similar reasoning would apply for trained citizens. Besides the average level of new units, you could also think about the randomness of the hunger for new units. Same applies for changing the hunger speed (currently 45 minutes for 100% to 0%). Setting a slower hunger speed implies less focus on food production, and vice versa.

What would YOU like? To keep this discussion structured, maybe we should try to reply in a format like this:

Citizens: 100% hunger speed, 60% fixed +/- 10% variable
Soldiers: 100% hunger speed, 65% fixed +/- 0% variable
I think it should be like this, because...

Re: Hunger level for new units

In original KaM units from the school (and at the start of the mission) began with a fixed amount of health, around 60% from memory. This meant that all of your original units became hungry at exactly the same time, causing major traffic jams and lag in your town (especially when you began the mission with a half complete village). That's why we changed them to start with a random amount, so they go and eat at different times.

Soldiers need to have a fixed amount so you can train a group and they will all become hungry at the same time. Soldiers at the start of the mission are given a random amount, but all members of the same group have the same amount.

I'm quite happy with the way it is currently in the Remake. Citizens eat soon enough that you need to make some food production, and soldiers can last a few battles before needing to be fed.

Re: Hunger level for new units

As Lewin says we have deliberately reduced mission-start citizen hunger level to make players put more effort into food production.
