Re: Dual processes, watching replay during in game, is it ch

@Lewin: Well written and I think it could go to kamremake dev blog :)
Thanks :) I'm concerned that we'll give people ideas, I guess a lot of people don't know about the two computers replay thing and it seems funny to post on our homepage instructions for a cheat of sorts, even if it's only a minor one. On the other hand it may reassure other people that cheating is not easy in the Remake.

I don't think it's a worthy cheat. Sado1 wrote well, managing to cheat like that will take time and concentration from player.

Dev blog could be separate from our main news page. And there could be many other articles, which are less "cheaty" )

So viewing a multiplayer replay is considered running another instance of multiplayer? E.g. I can't view a replay of a multiplayer game and play multiplayer on the same computer? If so, than who cares about this cheat? ;)

That's correct. You need two computers side by side to get around it, which is a lot of effort for a small gain.

Alright, good. It would just harm you then. Hopefully many cheaters find this out the hard way (6)

Laptop next to Personal Computer? Could be possible, though I think this won't be usefull at all.
Always look on the bright side of KaM! :D

Exactly, because by the time you get the files transfered, your information will be out-of-date. Not to mention the concentration you wasted.

Let's just stop talking in this topic. Because I could still argue "but I can think of multiple easy ways to automate that", and I'd hate to give people ideas. :P

Sure, I mean, we both use Linux right ? Who needs multiple computers if you can harness power of Wine and laugh at those windows folks.. (6)

No one would know if you didn't tell them. How will I abuse the replays now? :(

But seriously now... no matter what Lewin and Krom do, it will still be possible, one way or another. It can only be made harder to do (if it's simple and doesn't complicate saving system too much, it's okay). But blocking Linux is not. Even. An. Option.

Re: Dual processes, watching replay during in game, is it ch

We are seriously beating this topic into the ground. It's a never ending circle: 1) Someone comes up with an idea, 2) someone says it won't work, 3)someone says it can work but it is just too hard, 4) someone says it could be easily done, then back to step 1 :P

It's kinda funny

Re: Dual processes, watching replay during in game, is it ch

I don't really see what Linux has to do with this discussion. The locking method we use should still work in Wine, so you'd probably need two installations of Wine to get around it. If you can be bothered doing that then you might as well run a VM or have two computers. Read my original post for my opinion on this topic:

Which is very easy (you don't even need to use console if you have Playonlinux or some similar "wine bottler", and that was my point. But I agree, people who run Linux, will probably have more than one computer and/or will know how to use VMs anyway :) I already said there's no point in bringing this topic on, because it's not important, devs already said this is not as much of a problem as some people might think, and it can be workarounded anyway.

One more question: checking a map on the internet during play to see what's around (under the fog of war) - is it cheating in your opinion?
