Map editor feedback

A new programmer Marcin has started doing a bit of work on the KaM Remake, and one of the first tasks he did was to improve the map editor elevation tools. These changes will be in RC4 so please try them out and see what you think.

The main changes are:
1. It now "snaps to grid" in the same way Krom's editor does (so the smallest brush only effects 1 vertex).
2. The "flatten" tool now works the same way as it did in Krom's editor, it was quite buggy before.

A few map authors had pointed out these flaws in the past so it's good that they're fixed. Please use this thread to make suggestions for the map editor and maybe Marcin or Krom or I can implement them. Please also give feedback on the new elevation tools (once I've sent out RC4) because we're interested to know what people think of them and how they could be improved further.

My suggestions are:
- Find proper circle and square icons for elevation instead of wine (circle) and stone (square). Maybe someone here could make them for us? It would be good if they fit with the KaM art style.

- Add a new button to the object tab to place the "block" object (invisble wall) like in Krom's editor and hide it from the main list (it's currently item 52). This also requires an icon for it, maybe a circle with a line through it over a person? (like this but in a KaM style and small enough to fit next to the delete button) Could someone here make that?

- Add hints to all of the buttons/sliders and add text from the map editor into the translation files (currently a lot of it is hard coded)

Of course we plan to eventually implement the big features that are missing like terrain brushes but those will require a lot of work and planning.
Cheers,
Lewin.

Re: Map editor feedback

I wonder. Do you would raise even more height folding? It was possible to create maps such as: attack the hill. The fortress on the hill.
- Units within the steep mountain that could therefore come more slowly.

buildings and units on the top of that scale could make it about 0.3x higher.
archers on the hills to have a longer range, and the tower even more.

Add to this second type of wetlands.
1 - is what we have now can not go.
2 - darker on the impossible to pass.

or do nothing with color. If only that was an option in the editor swamp after which you can walk.

- To consider the possibility of adding a wall. Maybe it was worth it to carry out the tests in practice as it looks?

I wish him good luck and the same endurance that Lewin and Krom have.

So I finally understand what the 'Marcin' means on the google.code page ;)

Re: Map editor feedback

I have just uploaded circle and rectangle brush shape icons for MapEd, so they can be excluded from the "required" list )

Thanks for the offer :)
It will be displayed to the right of the delete button (red X) here:
Image
(similar to the way it is in Krom's editor)
The red X icon is 19x19 pixels:

So the block icon should be about the same size (it could be a few pixels bigger). The button that it fits in is 32x32px. If it's too difficult to make a self-explanatory icon we could make the button wide and put text next to it saying "Block" or something.

Re: Map editor feedback

Could be a simple red circle with a diagonal, or a stop sign as well
