Shouldn't the wolf avoid human settlements?
He was hungry.

Crabs can be a huge problem in some missions. Especially when you build on sand to conserve your precious limited arable land.

In that screenshot the wolf can get out because there is a gap, and that's what he would have done. However, if the wolf had no place to move to then he would have been "destroyed" automatically by the game after 20 seconds. This works for all animals, if they get stuck for more than 20 seconds or are on a tile that cannot be walked on they will be destroyed. This prevents situations where crabs and wolfs can stop you building, as is shown in this screenshot. The 20 second delay was introduced because otherwise it's quite easy to make animals kill themselves by moving some troops around them (this is still possible with the delay but it's harder).

I remember earlier on in development (well before multiplayer) someone sent us a replay where a wolf had somehow got stuck in front of the storehouse and was surrounded by serfs. Back then we hadn't considered a situation like this so the wolf was stuck there forever (or until the serfs starved I guess?)

It's amazing how many strange situations like this you have to deal with when programming a game like KaM :P

You guys have been doing a great job at making the settlements run better. This is just one of many examples. :)

As a veterinarian I firmly disapprove the destruction of animals! We should save them, not destroy them! Labourers and serfs should move away from the wolf! Buildings should be demolished automatically when a wolf comes too close! Save the wolves! (Now I can't really go on about the marketplace anymore, I must find new ways to complain. :P)

On a more serious note, I agree with Ben. I don't think anyone had thought of things like this; it really shows how deep you have to dive in the great pool of KaM awesomeness to discover and fix such things. :)

Same here, rofl. Even though I rarely post here, I read a lot and TDL very often puts a smile on my face
