Dear users,

KnightsandMerchants.net has always been ad-free. Before that, we only displayed ads that were out of our control and displayed by our free-host. However, because we also have never accepted donations, KaM.net still runs of personal funds only. Because of the growth of this community thanks to KaM Remake, we have future plans for this website and it's community. The costs will be quite more than we have had so far. We're certain that both KaM.net and KaM Remake will benefit from the upcoming changes and therefore we hope that you will continue to support us in the (near) future.

As you may have noticed, there are two new additions to our forum. One on the top right, the other in the footer. In the top right, you'll find a link to purchase KaM: TPR from GOG.com. Lots of us have bought TPR there, since it is able to run on Windows Vista, 7 and 8 and allows us to install and play KaM Remake. The one in the footer links to GOG.com in general.

These 'ads' are a collaboration between GOG.com and KnightsandMerchants.net aswell as KaMRemake.com. We realize that everyone hates ads, but through this collaboration instead of for example Google Adsense, we hope to have found a way to display the ads in a modest and not too annoying way. Clicking the ads will take you to GOG.com, where you can purchase games, DRM-free, for a fair price. When you successfully purchase a game on GOG.com using our link, we will receive a certain amount of the money you spent. Win-win: you get a game, we get sponsored by you.

Sounds okay. Is there a way I can help generating revenue by not buying games myself?
Next to these two ads so far (there will probably be 1 or 2 more, but not on the same page), every user has the ability to help promote our unique link by displaying userbars in their signature. I have setup easy BB-codes, so you only have to enter the following:

Userbar 1:
  Code:
[gog=1][/gog]
Userbar 2:
  Code:
[gog=2][/gog]
They will display a userbar in your signature with our unique link embedded in them.

When will we hear about the upcoming plans?
Soon! We've been discussing the plans a lot behind the scenes and they will be announced very soon.

How will you spend the money?
They money will only be used for KaM.net, KaMRemake.com and KaM Remake in general. There will be no personal gain for any of us whatsoever. We will keep you up-to-date about our spendings.

The ads are ugly. Don't you have others?
GOG.com offers some promotion material, but we're also free to create our own. Since none of us are design specialists, we'd love you to send us your own banner, button or userbar.
You can also make suggestions as where to place or remove the ads. We'll definitely listen to our users. Feel free to send us suggestions!

The last thing I'd like to mention is that we encourage you all to spread our link through Facebook, Twitter, Google+, etc.
You can create links yourself, by visiting a random GOG.com page and pasting:
  Code:
?pp=8cc9fcd9fdbef641b5d23f4a80588138107a1f1b
behind it. For example:
  Code:
http://www.gog.com/game/knights_and_merchants_the_peasants_rebellion?pp=8cc9fcd9fdbef641b5d23f4a80588138107a1f1b

Finally I'd like to say that you should visit GOG.com regularly in the next few days. Maybe they'll even write an article about KaM Remake...? ;)

Please discuss the changes below!

Any steps required to support KaM and the Remake are fine in my book :) ads never really bother me that much, especially if they fit the context.
