Languages and Forum

So, as some of us will know, there is a discussion going in dutch at this moment. I would like to suggest making a part of the forum for specifik forum for languages. So a dutch forum is possible and there will be dutch discussions. People will not be frustrated by the I don't get the language part. There could be a possibility for dutch, spanish or german speakers for instance all languages are possible if there are enough people and a trusted moderator for the language.

I do know that on a sidenote there are probably too few people to realise this idea, but I am only suggesting it... And I do also know that this will be hard to implement, because most administrators won't get the spanish language, just as me :P

Maybe it is a good idea for certain languages indeed. Dutch and Polish mainly. Although I think the active community is a bit too small for this and it could divide the group.

Well, if you design it as a 'help only - and really help only"-forum, then it's ok. So the moderators should keep an eye that all discussions are done in the main forum and the language-forums are really only for helping people that don't understand english.
Otherwise it will happen what Da Revo said.

Well there already is separate a Polish forum:
http://www.knights.sztab.com/forum/

And a Dutch forum although it's been pretty quiet for a few years:
http://kam.vanmeijeren.nl/forum/

There's a German forum here:
http://knightsandmerchants.de/include.p ... umsdisplay

And a Russian forum here:
http://kamclub.ru/forum/

There are also French, Czech and Hungarian forums last time I checked. So we don't really need any language specific forums in my opinion, if people want to have discussions in those languages they can go to those places.

I personally think this forum should stay English for discussions. If someone needs help then I think it's okay to use their native language if that's convenient (like the current Dutch discussion), but if we start having e.g. balance discussions, replays, etc. in 5 different languages the KaM.net community will become very divided. I think it's good that this forum connects all these people from different places through a common languages, because otherwise the Polish people wouldn't really talk to the Russians or the Dutch etc. because they're all on their own forums.

I think the reason this forum has been so successful (excluding our great admins who keep everything running smoothly :P) is because it connects everybody. Not many of the people on this forum have English as a first language (I'm one of the few) but still everybody uses it. To me that demonstrates why it is a success.

This will not happen, for the following reasons:

A) There are rarely topics that have to written in an other language than English, because the TS doesn't speak English well enough. The topic you are referring to is the first time I've seen it.
B) The community is too small for splitting it up in language sections.
C) There's no way the team can check what is being said and if it doesn't cross any lines. If we didn't have a Dutch admin or moderator, we wouldn't have allowed that the topic you are referring to was not in English. Since 2 of the crew are Dutch, it's possible in this case to check what is being said.
D) We want to prevent things like that topic from happening in the future.

Btw: poerkie does speak english very well. I know because he visited the chat first and had a conversation with saintk and me in english. I actually wondered why you kept speaking dutch. Is it because of the specific concern he had?

@Lewin:
i am pretty sure that the biggest reason for the success of this forum is that Krom and you are both active here. Don't underestimate our need to stay close to you :)

He was the one starting out in Dutch and his first post wasn't really making sense.

Btw, I'm moving this discussion.

I agree both with Lewin and Tom. Splitting forum in segments is the opposite of what we really need for projects advance.
