Contribution 'rewards'

Hi all!

Lately I've been thinking about some kind of 'rewards' that KaM.net can give to people that contribute to this community or KaM Remake. As we all know, KaM is an old game and if it weren't for KaM Remake, this community and many others would have probably died by now. Since this community and the Remake depends greatly on contributions from fans, we'd like to do something back.

The point is: KaM.net has no income, whatsoever. We don't display ads which could make us some money to pay for the hosting and some other things. The idea is to reward contributors not with money or things like that, but things like special ranks and other stuff you guys may come up with.

Lewin thought of 'Gold', 'Silver' and 'Bronze' Contributors. These would be special ranks depending on how much and what you have contributed to either KaM.net, the Remake or both. It has to be well thought through, but it's a nice idea.

I'd like it if you came up with ideas yourself. Please think it through and work it out before you post it. It can be anything, but remember: there has to be no money involved.
It's also possible to discuss Lewin's idea (please, do).

To help you on your way, contributions are things like:
  • Organising Tournaments (good ones)
  • Making Maps
  • Sounds / Graphics for KaM Remake
  • Creating content for KaM.net
  • Etc.
Now, this idea is to inspire people to contribute to KaM.net and/or KaM Remake. The contributions have to be acknowledged (e.g. not everyone that makes a map becomes a contributor. It has to be a good one and proven itself over time).

Please let me know what you think.

Re: Contribution 'rewards'

I don't think it's a good idea really. 1. We don't have qualified jury that would judge the contributions. 2. There are no criteria of what counts and what not for a contribution. 3. There will be upset players who's contributions will be count as insignificant. 4. Real contributors don't care about forum badges, they care about result and usually run their own topic.

Besides, whats the point of these rewards? I doubt that someone will be motivated to work very hard just to get that badge.

The crew will be the jury.
2. There are no criteria of what counts and what not for a contribution.
There will be, it just has to be worked out.
3. There will be upset players who's contributions will be count as insignificant.
There are always unsatisfied people. There are also upset players playing the Remake. Should that be a reason to quit development?
4. Real contributors don't care about forum badges, they care about result and usually run their own topic.
They care about recognition.

The point is that contributors get the feeling they get some recognition and it may stimulate people to contribute too.

Besides, you're just commenting on Lewin's idea. It can be any form of 'reward'. If you have a better suggestion, let's here it.

Some little words in one's profile that everybody can see are sometimes enough for some people to work hard.

I'll take the success (that are in most of the games now) exemple :
these are only several words (and maybe an image), but the players often try to do their best to have most of the successes in the game, just because it adds a goal/looks so cool because it shows you're so a pro player (:p)

I'm sure it'll at least make a little part of the people motivated, it's like "grades" for the number of posts in many forums or "beta tester" "alpha tester" badges on some developer's forums, it adds "prestige" to the persons who have it, people love to earn things, especially when all the others can see it, and even if this is only some text.

Re: Contribution 'rewards'

What to do with combination of beta-tester/mapmaker/championship winner/contributor all in one person? )

Re: Contribution 'rewards'

If you want to give "Rewards" i would advise custom titles or so. For example "Mapmaker" for someone who made one or more really good maps.

This could be an option. It can be measured if a map is good by how much it's played and appreciated by players.

Great idea! We need active people to stay and keep helping, although I only make translations to dutch on the Remake site :P . I really think this is a good idea. It should be worked out good before introducing it.

Tottaly agreed. This would be even better then Gold, Silver, Bronze Contributors.
Always look on the bright side of KaM! :D
