New hope for Knights and Merchants 2?

It seems like Peter Ohlamm and Adam Sprys (the members of Joymania) have founded a new company called "OHLMANN PETER & SPRYS ADAM GBR". In theory this means that they are both alive so the fact that they could be developing Knights and Merchants 2 is not impossible. However don't get your hopes up, as noone yet knows what this really means. The name change is really strange as I think Joymania is a better name for a company. More news will probably follow!

Thanks to Buggy for discovering this!

Update! - 9.5.2006
It seems like this company has in fact been in existance for about 8 years according to The Knight, so this news can probably be ignored!

Yeah nothing is saying it is impossible, but I heard from Knightsandmerchants DE that Peter Ohlamm (K&M programmer) is working for another company, so it means that no K&M2 is probably coming soon, unless he tries to convince the company to make it  (highly unlikely).

The same problem has occurred with the making of Majesty 2, if anyone has also played the first one. If you haven't I really recommend it, it is a very fun and challenging game with good replay value for hundreds of hours of fun. Unfortunately it is very repetitive as well.

I have hope that someday these two games are both made, and both fully in a 3-D format.

Don't spoil good games with 3D :). It still looks worse than good 32bit sprites (Heroes4 vs. Heroes5). And after all it's like chess, where fancy 3D effects don't mean anything for a good gameplay.

Well, I wasn't thinking more along the lines of bad, but something along the lines like the Majesty game. Check out these screens:

http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/majesty2/screenindex.html

I thought it looked really cool. :)

EDIT: Okay I re-looked at it, and they're only proto shots, as something look really crappy so I understand were you were comming from with the ruining the game thing. Yeah it probably does. I mean I like Knights and Merchants the way it is, but something new needs to come into play to give it a better presentation as times are changing and you'd like some better graphics and gameplay.

I doubt anyone would actually do it seeing as the original game did terribly outside of Germany, some major upgrades could be made, but it could be that the game doesn't feel like KaM anymore.

I'm sorry to kick up this old topic...

I'm your Dutch colleague, from kam.vanmeijeren[dot]nl

I see, you still expect, Joymania to make a new KaM...
I have mailed Peter Ohlmann himself, with that question, he told me that Joymania has sold the rights from Knights and Merchants to ZuxxeZ, and that Joymania can't make a new KaM, because they don't own the rights anymore.

Yes, that's a question we in The Netherlands also thought about...
But what will the costs be?

A few hundred we maybe can afford, but a few thousend will be a bit more difficult.

We were also thinking about sending ZuxxeZ letters, with the request to make a new KaM... (because they don't reply to e-mails).

Okay, now this is totally new information for me, so ZuXXeZ now holds onto the rights of Knights and Merchants. I doubt purchasing them from ZuXXeZ would be possible as rights usually cost a lot of money (we're not talking about just a few thousand $).

The interesting fact here is that if ZuXXeZ actually bought the rights to Knights and Merchants, there has to be a reason for it. The IP itself shouldn't be too valuable as the game wasn't any kind of big hit, so maybe ZuXXeZ is planning to develop a new KaM? Considering that they own the studio Reality Pump who has a lot of experience on developing RTSes (Earth series), I wouldn't be too surprised if ZuXXeZ one day announces that Reality Pump has started developing the long awaited sequel to Knights and Merchants. Don't get your hopes too high yet, but theoretically it could be quite possible!

Hmmz, maybe you're right, but I doubt it, because we haven't heard anything about these plans...
Ofcourse it could be true, but if I was the head of ZuxxeZ I would have fired the PR-manager!

KaM wasn't a big hit? Maybe not in Finland, but in The Netherlands and certainly in Germany it surely was!
